I’ve installed a new clutch kit on my City Golf due to excessive wear on the previous disc. I’m certain I’ve installed everything correctly as it can only go in one way. Once installed, I started the car with the front wheels still in the air. I noticed that I could change into all 4 gears, including reverse, without stepping on the clutch. Actually the clutch cable was not even connected yet. The gears engaged smoothly into all gears without any grating noises. The front wheels are actually spinning while in the air. Can anybody please help me on this one as I don’t know what is happening or how it is even possible to engage the gears without a clutch or even some noise? Did I do anything wrong? All answers would be greatly appreciated. yyou didnt finish it if you put it on the groung ait will not go into gear so easy,,,stop fooling around,,hook up clutch cable and drive it Yeah, you probably need to finish the hookup and see what it does on the ground. Any problems, report back and we will try to help. Auto parts : Distributor Gear Acura 1995 . Distributor Gear Pin Alfa Romeo 1996 . Distributor Ground Terminal Kit Audi 1997 . I found a 2005 hyundai with very, very low miles (12k). Turns out it probably sat in a garage somewhere from '06 (that's when it was last registered) until very recently. Looks and drives perfect, clean title/ carfax, etc. It is at a small dealer who picked it up at auction, otherwise they know almost nothing about it. I am concerned about the after-effects of it having sat all that time. What would you recommend doing before I buy? Then I noticed that there was some dead bird inside the plastic grill below windshield (I think this is called windshield cowl). I don't know how it came here. I took my car to a workshop and got this cowl cover removed, and the bird too was removed. But then I asked him to throughly wash the cowl to eliminate any odors. He told me that water might go into the passenger cabin, but I insisted that it won't go inside. Now, I wonder whether it could be possible for water to drain into the car or not. Nissan . Why Car Engines Won't Turn OverModern engines are complicated pieces of equipment with a great number of integrated and interdependent systems. Failure of any one of them may result in a no-start condition, which may or may not be easy to diagnose. Engine Requirements In order to run, an engine needs fuel, air and a properly timed spark. Depriving an engine of any of these will result in a no-start condition. Starting System If you turn the key and nothing happens, then the fault is in the starting system. This includes the battery, starter switch and associated fuses and wiring. Rotating Assembly Mechanical seizure resulting from overheating or a lack of oil will cause a no-start condition. Anti Theft System Most modern cars have ignition shut-downs built into the anti-theft system. If the vehicle detects an unauthorized entry, either through manual door unlocking or sensor malfunction, the anti-theft system will disable the car until it is reset. Bad Grounding One of the most common causes of no-start conditions is a bad ground strap. These cables connect the negative battery terminal to the frame or engine, and can cause engine failure if corroded, loose or broken. ResourcesDiagnosing a No-Start (Video)
Nissan . Facts About Running Car Engines Off of GreaseToday's diesel engines can run on a processed form of grease. Common restaurant grease and cooking oils, when processed into biodiesel, provide an alternative to dependence on fossil fuels. Biodiesel Before grease or vegetable oil can run a car's engine, it must undergo processing into its refined form, biodiesel. The "Chicago Tribune" noted that in 2007 the United States produced 450 million gallons of this newly popular alternative fuel. Sources Used cooking oil and restaurant grease provide plenty of raw material for biodiesel. A "Chicago Tribune" article states that some restaurants get paid to ship off their used oil and grease for processing. San Francisco has launched a citywide grease recycling program, according to SFGate.com. Grades The U.S. Department of Energy lists several grades of biodiesel-petroleum diesel blends, noting that the B2 and B5 grades can power most diesel engines. Pros and Cons While biodiesel emits less pollution and uses largely recycled, renewable materials, it currently costs more and delivers less power and lower fuel economy than standard fuels, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Considerations The U.S. Department of Energy warns that trying to use unprocessed vegetable oil or grease will harm a vehicle's engine and advises drivers to use fully processed biodiesel only. Coil springs are typically used with strut-type suspensions, too. Figure 11-7 shows one type of coil spring; Figure 16-7 shows front and rear springs. You can find instructions for lubricating them in Chapter 16. At the front end, coil springs help cushion the bumps, vibrations, and steering movements. At the rear, they're suspended between control arms that have rubber bushings. v0 Torsion bars (refer to Figures 11-7 and 16-9) are used mainly in sport-utility vehicles and pre-1980 Chrysler products. They are located at the front of the vehicle, connected to the lower control arms. They twist to accommodate differences in the load that the car may be carrying, allowing the front wheels to move up and down freely. Think of torsion bars as coil springs that didn't get wound into a spiral. W Air springs are usually found on luxury vehicles. A rubber air spring can be filled with the right amount of compressed air to control the ride and maintain the proper height. With this type of system, a computer monitors the ride height and signals an onboard air compressor to pump more air into the air springs whenever weight is added to the vehicle. When the weight is removed, the computer turns on an exhaust solenoid to let air out of the air springs (refer to Figures 11-7 and 16-10). Usually, there's nothing to lubricate with air springs. But check with the dealer to find out whether it's okay to apply a rubber conditioner to the air bags to prevent them from wearing out prematurely. .Chapter 11: Steering and Suspension Systems Smooth the Way Shocks and struts Shock absorbers (see Figure 11-9) and MacPherson struts (see Figure 11-10) do most of the work of protecting the passenger compartment from bumps. One or the other is located near each wheel. The way they cut down on vertical movement is interesting. When a wheel hits a bump, it tends to keep bouncing up and down long after the bump has been left behind unless the movement is controlled. The bouncing effect is due to the inflated rubber tire on the wheel, and also to the fact that a coil spring that is either pulled or compressed doesn't just snap back into its former shape but keeps moving up and down for some time afterward. Shock absorbers and struts allow the springs to compress freely and to return or rebound slowly — like the door check on a storm door that opens quickly and easily but closes gently. Nissan .
